What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda, often translated as “the science of life,” is a system of medicine that recognizes the body as inherently intelligent and capable of healing when given the right support.

Rather than treating symptoms in isolation, Ayurveda looks at the whole digestion, nervous system, environment, and daily habits to restore balance at the root.

At Prana & Spice, these principles are applied in a way that is both refined and approachable. Through mindful movement, intentional nourishment, herbal support, and daily ritual, the body is gently guided back into equilibrium. This is not about extremes. It is about consistency, awareness, and alignment.

THE THREE DOSHAS

01

Vata (Ether + Air)

Core Qualities: Light, Dry, Cold, Mobile, Subtle, Irregular

What Vata Governs: All Movement. Movement in the body (breath, circulation, nerve impulses), creativity and inspiration, speech and communication, birthing a baby, defecation and urination.

When Vata is in Balance: Creative, inspired, intuitive. Light, flexible, adaptable. Clear thinking, spiritual connection. Enthusiastic, imaginative, innovative.

When Vata is Out of Balance: Anxiety, fear, overwhelm. Dryness (skin, joints, constipation). Irregular digestion, bloating. Insomnia, scattered thoughts. Feeling ungrounded or depleted.

In essence: too much movement, not enough stability. People with more Vata in their constitution may have difficulty putting and keeping weight on.

In essence: too much stillness, not enough movement.

Bringing it all together

Vata = Movement (needs grounding). Pitta = Transformation (needs cooling). Kapha = Structure (needs stimulation).

Health from an Ayurvedic lens is not labeling the doshas good or bad — it’s about maintaining dynamic harmony, so that we stay more balanced and healthier.
